AdBlue®, also known as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) or AUS32, is a high-purity 32.5% urea aqueous solution used in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems of modern diesel trucks, buses and off-road machinery. Its core function is to convert harmful NOx exhaust into harmless nitrogen and water vapour, helping vehicles meet Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission regulations.

However, many fleet owners and workshop technicians overlook one critical point: not all AdBlue® on the market meets ISO 22241 specifications. Using diluted, contaminated or fake AdBlue® will cause SCR injector clogging, catalyst poisoning, engine power derating, emission test failure and huge maintenance bills. This is why regular AdBlue® test is a must for fleet maintenance, bulk storage and incoming raw material inspection.

What items does AdBlue® test cover?

The core indicators for testing AdBlue® are urea concentration and metal impurity content.

The ISO22241 standard requires a urea mass fraction of 31.8%~33.2%, with an ideal value of 32.5%. If the concentration is too low, NOx removal efficiency drops; if it's too high, crystallisation can occur, blocking the injection nozzle.

Metal impurities like calcium, iron, copper, etc., are very harmful, and exceeding the limit can permanently poison the SCR catalyst. Other standard test items include refractive index, density, biuret, aldehydes, alkalinity, and insoluble matter.

1. Field quick test (on-site screening)
