In the hot flue gas stream, the urea solution is decomposed into carbon dioxide and ammonia. Ammonia typically reacts with nitrogen oxides on the catalyst, breaking them down into harmless components of water and nitrogen.
In order to reduce NOx emissions from diesel engines, an appropriate amount of urea solution is referred to as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid), and in Europe, this solution is sold under the name AUS32.
The solution is also environmentally friendly and helps to reduce harmful pollutants released by diesel engines. It is commonly referred to as the DEF / Diesel Exhaust fluid in the United States.
